How I became an online Spanish teacher

Hi! My name is Kevin and I’m an online Spanish teacher from Argentina 🙂

I was born, grew up and live in Buenos Aires, the capital of the country.

After high school, I earned a minor in Sports Journalism and went on to study Communication Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires.

In 2021, I completed my degree with a focus on Educational Processes!

Back in 2016, when I was studying English, I simply wanted to practice with native speakers from around the world. Before long, though, I discovered my passion for helping others learn Spanish!

This inspired me to become a teacher. I studied hard, earned my certification in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, and here I am!

I have experience teaching both tourists and people who are just interested in the language, as well as refugees and immigrants to Argentina, because I have volunteered for a church in La Boca, a popular neighborhood in the south of the city 🙂

Since 2019, I’ve been working as an online Spanish teacher. I started on italki, a popular language platform, but even before that, I dreamed of having my own website one day.

The lockdown in 2020 gave me the chance to bring that dream to life. I built my website from scratch, step by step, entirely on my own.

It took some time and effort, but finally, in 2021, I created my personal project, Spanish with Kevin, where I now offer personalized lessons directly to my students.

FAQs: learning with an online Spanish teacher

1) Do I need previous experience to start lessons with an online Spanish teacher?

No, you don’t need experience at all! I teach complete beginners, intermediate and advanced students. I will adapt the lessons to your level and goals, so don’t worry. We go step by step, and you’ll feel comfortable from the beginning. That’s the good thing about learning with an online Spanish teacher: everything is personalized for you.

2) Why choose an online Spanish teacher instead of an app or AI tool?

Apps and AI can help with some things, like learning words or short practice. But they can’t give you real conversation or personal feedback. As an online Spanish teacher, I can help you speak, correct your mistakes, and focus on your interests. You don’t just study: you use the language and connect with a real human being.

3) How do online Spanish lessons work with a real teacher?

We meet on Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or any other platform available, and we talk, learn and practice Spanish together in real time. I use online materials, screen sharing, chat box, and interactive activities. You’ll speak a lot from day one: no boring lectures! The lessons are dynamic, personalized, and focused on real conversation.

4) What are the benefits of having a Spanish teacher from Argentina?

If you want to learn about the Argentine accent and culture, having a teacher from Argentina is a great idea! I’m from Buenos Aires, so I use voseo and speak with that charming sh sound, haha. I also love sharing expressions, traditions, and real-life examples from here. And if you’re curious, here are 5 reasons to learn Argentine Spanish.

A bit about me beyond the classroom

When I’m not teaching Spanish, I love reading, listening to music (especially live!), watching movies and series, cooking and swimming.

I’m a big fan of sports too, and one of my latest passions is dancing tango. I started in 2023 and it’s become a big part of my life.

I’m really fond of education, languages, and cultures, which is why I enjoy learning new languages myself.

Right now, I’m studying Italian (which will be my fourth language after Spanish, English and Portuguese!) and I’ve dived into the world of programming too.

Sharing these interests with my students often makes our lessons more fun and personal.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and seeing what we have in common!
